$21,000 raised for St. Baldrick’s!
On August 16th in Danvers, MA, we held our 5th Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open, including our second on the campus of beautiful St. John’s Preparatory School. Not only did we exceeded our $20,000 fundraising goal on the morning of the tournament, but we had the opportunity to present the St. Baldrick’s Foundation with our commitment to fund $97,500 in 2014, helping fund two research grants. Susan Heard, Director of Partnerships at St. Baldrick’s was there to accept the gift along with Dr. Jennifer Wu, pediatric oncologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and the recipient of one of the Tap Cancer Out/St. Baldrick’s Fellowship Grants, who addressed the 300 competitors and spectators to explain her mission. Our 2014 gift will be the largest gift that St. Baldrick’s has ever received from a charity partner.
Wrapping up our New England tournament season was bittersweet, knowing we’d have to wait until next spring to gather again for this cause. However, we will look back on our 2014 tournaments with fondness, having raised $75,000 for St. Baldricks, which is more than 3/4ths of our $97,500 commitment.
Special thanks to our volunteers who make every event possible and to our sponsors—Inverted Gear, Gabriel Richard Photography, Rich O’s Photography, RollMore.com, Fight Soap, Bunnell High School, St. John’s Prep—for giving us a helping hand in so many different ways.
